The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course (ACLS) is crafted to instruct healthcare professionals who provide care during respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies such as cardiac arrest, pulmonary arrest, myocardial infarction, and stroke.
While all healthcare professionals who care for patients should be current with ACLS techniques and principles, groups who will be most interested in this course are:
- Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
- First Responders
- Paramedics
- Physicians and PA’s esp. Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Trauma
- House Staff/Interns/Residents
- Registered Nurses
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Nurse Practitioners/Doctors of Nursing Practice
- Dentists
Most hospitals, medical centers, and group practices require all staff to at least have BLS certification.
Our Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course (and those from the AHA), provide training on virtually every aspect of acute resuscitation. The examination requires knowledge of ACLS that may be beyond your practice parameters. For instance, nurses who take the ACLS examination will be expected to know the proper medication for a given situation, even though the order will likely come from a physician. The American Heart Association and our ACLS Medical Training professionals agree that anyone responding to a code blue should have the same basic knowledge set. Responders and providers should be able to work seamlessly as a cohesive team during this critical, stressful time.
ACLS certification is valid for two years. Certification renewal is required to stay current with advances in resuscitation science.
ACLS Medical Services continually update their training materials to stay current with guidelines from:
- The American College of Cardiology
- The American Heart Association
- The American Red Cross
- The Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation
- The European Resuscitation Council
- The European Society of Cardiology
- The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
- The Resuscitation Council of Asia

If this is your first time certifying, ACLS Medical Training has over 20 hours of content in their comprehensive ACLS course, including a great provider manual, practice tests, megacode simulators, algorithms, and more. After you have completed your online study and pass you then attend the 1 day face to face Labs in either Bundaberg or Brisbane Qld (dependent which course you attend).
Your certification is for 2 years, you will then need to do a renewal. You will be notified immediately whether you pass or fail the online exam. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can retake the test as many times as needed until you earn a passing score. You will need to achieve a score of at least 80% to pass the exam.
The portal system is excellent to work with and gives you the hints necessary to follow the correct paths, it tells you to read each of the chapters and then do megapodes prior to attempting the actual ACLS formal test which is a multiple choice series of questions.
There is a large amount of material you can go through during the online course to assist you and of course a great manual you can download.
